Carbon Sinks

A Carbon Sink is any process, activity or mechanism that removes a greenhouse gas, an aerosol or a precursor of a greenhouse gas or aerosol from the atmosphere.1 Carbon sinks can be natural or man made reservoirs that absorb or store carbon-containing chemical compounds. Forests as well as soils, oceans and the atmosphere store carbon, acting as carbon sinks. Landfills and carbon capture and storage technology are examples of man made carbon sinks.
