Climate Lab's mission is to develop web-based tools for knowledge sharing and collaboration that drive action to address climate change. We are a nonpartisan nonprofit organization based in Washington, DC that began operation in November, 2008. As a 501(c)(3) organization, Climate Lab relies on support from foundations, government grants, and individual donations.

On March 2, 2009, Climate Lab beta-launched climatelab.org, a wiki addressing issues related to climate change. Given the enormous scale of the climate change crisis and the short timeline to take action, professionals working on climate change often cite the need for better information sharing and collaboration. Climate Lab's wiki technology allows policy experts, development specialists, engineers, academics and others to define a common language, identify the most relevant information, and discover better ways of working together.

How to use Climate Lab

The Climate Lab wiki can provide a range of benefits to participants--whether they work in the NGO or policy community, academia or the public or private sectors. The wiki can serve as:

  • An opportunity for local communities and the general public to contribute and share climate changed-related information with a global audience
  • A means for experts, policymakers and regulators to learn about new technologies, perspectives and solutions at all stages of development
  • A climate change information management system for NGOs, multi-lateral development banks and governmental agencies
  • An exciting teaching tool for professors and educators to use with students at the high school, college and post-graduate levels
  • A resource for clean energy businesses to educate their clients and identify opportunities
  • Virtual space to post academic research, data, and other climate change information

Solutions through Collaboration

Our motto, "Solutions through Collaboration" reflects our commitment to using web technology to enable individuals and organizations to take wiser, more effective actions to help address climate change. We aim to make our content useful to professionals working on climate-related issues, and empowering to committed citizens looking to take action in their own lives and communities.
